As I was walking around the dome a woman stopped me and asked if she could pray over me. I told her no thanks, I needed to hurry through the park. Not knowing how long it would take to see everything this was sort of true. But she insisted, in Japanese, it would only take a few minutes. OK, fine.
I closed my eyes on her command and she held her hand out and prayed silently. After a minute or two I couldn't help peeking. Expecting to see her running away or making faces at me I was surprised when I saw she was still quietly deep in prayer.
After it was all done she thanked me and pointed out the way I should go through the park to the memorial museum. I reached for money expecting to be asked to donate to her church, but she never asked.
