Kanchanaburi Trek
Then we bamboo rafted under the bridge over the River Kuai. That's the bridge. Only the first two sections are original, the rest of the bridge was bombed and destroyed in the war.

The bamboo rafting this time was more of a tourist attraction. The rafts were merely bamboo on top of plastic rafts and we all had to wear brilliantly colored life jackets.

You may know the story of the bridge from a famous movie, but we learned a few disturbing things at the associated museum.

The most disturbing was that when the Allies flew over to bomb the bridge the Japanese lined up all of the POWs on the bridge in an attempt to stop the bombing. However, the bombing went on and hundred of POWs were blown away along with the bridge.
